Almost everything we purchase today comes with an instruction manual. Unfortunately, many of us don’t take the time to read them. We assume we already have a good idea how the product works or is assembled, but then we begin to worry when the product doesn’t function properly, or we have nuts and bolts left after assembly.

The Marriage Mentor Resource Guide is the “paint by number” instruction manual for mentors to follow as they guide their mentee couple through the mentoring process. Just like any other instruction manual, its effectiveness is determined only by how often it is used. We recommend mentor couples review this resource guide each time they prepare for a mentoring session.

The Introduction and Overview section of the Resource Guide give details regarding the structure, definition of terms and all the features of the marriage mentoring. The overview section explains each step to mentor certification, how to use both mentor and mentee journals, then discusses the importance of catching the mentee couple doing things right.

This Overview section also explains each step of making the connection with the mentee couple, how to partially interpret the marital assessment, and properly use our communication tools. The remainder of the Resource Guide directly parallels each chapter of Devoted-Foundations. Not only are the basics of each chapter explained here, but mentors will also find a myriad of additional resources, ideas, exercises and checklists found in the back of each chapter of this Resource Guide.

We have decided to put this Resource Guide in an expandable 3 ring binder, which makes it easy for mentors to add the additional resources that Marriage Mentors periodically makes available to all mentors. Apart from the workbook Devoted-Foundations, this Resource Guide may very well be the most important component of the mentoring journey.
